Cool shot of the the shuttle tiles on the bottom of the vehicle. The little circles in the middle of the tiles are where they inject waterproofing into the tiles. Though the shuttle can sit in the rain and survive just fine, it cannot fly through rain. High speed water droplets can destroy the delicate tiles, which are said to have the delicacy of an egg shell. This is why they need zero precip. on re-entry, and why they landed here at Edwards this time around. This is also why they need perfect weather throughout the ferry flight back to KSC. Much of the tile damage during a mission is due to impacting ice falling from the external tank on lift-off
